Missouri Valley Lineman Apprenticeship is accepting applications
Apprentices play a vital role building and maintaining electrical power systems and traffic signals. The apprenticeship programs at Missouri Valley Line Constructors combine supervised, structured on-the-job training with related classroom instruction to prepare you for skilled employment in the following careers: Lineman Traffic Signal Technician Substation Technician Cable Splicer Because you are working and learning at the same time, apprentices are considered full-time employees. Wages are paid to you during the on-the-job phase of training. Wages increase as progress is made in the program.
Journeymen linemen build and maintain electrical power systems. They do all the work from the point of generation (power plants) all the way to the customer's meter. The lines may be on overhead structures (up to 300') or in underground vaults or trenches. They may be in rural and metropolitan areas. Linemen also do work on traffic signals and street lights. The work is varied and exciting and the rewards are plentiful.
Being a journeyman lineman is really a combination of jobs — part engineer, part project manager, part equipment operator and part mechanic. Your apprenticeship training program will prepare you for all aspects of this exciting and rewarding career.
Requirements
To apply for the apprenticeship program, you must meet some basic qualifications. You must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and you must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air-brakes and manual transmission*, a Department of Motor Vehicle physical exam and pass an aptitude test to be accepted into the program. Applicants must also submit a $30 payment at the time of application.
* If under 21 with a CDL from a state different that the state you applied for, you will have 60 days to get a CDL in the state you applied for.
If you do not have a CLASS A CDL with Airbrakes and Manual Transmission with Medical certificate, you are not able to complete our application, however, Missouri Valley JATC has partnered with 160 Driving Acedamy to help obtain a CDL.
