Painter Industrial Coatings and Linings Application Specialist

The Industrial Painter must be skilled in surface preparation and coating application techniques. He or she must also be familiar with safety requirements of the job site, with the equipment associated with industrial painting, with personal and environmental hygiene practices and requirements of the trade. Due to the risks associated with this work, the industrial painter must be physically fit and not intimidated with the height of the work.

The future looks promising for industrial painters. The demand for construction workers is at its peak, and there are no signs of IUPAT trades slowing down. The apprenticeship program involves 8000 hours of on-the-job training and 196 hours of related training per year for 4 years. Starting wages as of June 2022 are $27.50 per hour, in addition to benefits such as health, pension, and annuity.

Industrial painters are responsible for applying protective coatings and linings to steel and iron on complex structures like bridges, towers, dams, ship hulls, offshore platforms, and chemical and power plants. As an apprentice in the IUPAT industrial painting trade, you will receive training in applying protective coatings to various structures to prevent corrosion. Additionally, you will develop listening, problem-solving, and mathematical skills that will help you excel in your job.
